Chapter Fifteen

Lindi's phone chirped as they were walking through the mall's big glass entry doors. She pulled it from her purse and gave Jack a self-conscious smile. "It's my friend Sara."

He shrugged. "Go ahead and answer. I ain't in any hurry."

However, Lindi winced as she read her friend's message. 'Nice pic. But dating a stranger? R U sure?'

'He's the one who told me to send U his deets,' Lindi fired back. Then she speculated guiltily on what Sara would have to say if she knew Jack had begun by kidnapping her, or some of the other things that had happened. That would not be good.

Belatedly, she realized that her first instinct had been to defend Jack to her friend. Which was a little weird, considering how they'd met. She'd better be careful here—she'd read about some syndrome where victims ended up allying themselves with their kidnappers.

Then she rolled her eyes at her own lurid imagination. Jack was hardly holding her bound in some remote place, waiting for ransom. As soon as he'd discovered their mistake, he'd defended her fiercely, knocking Twig out after he hit her, and then put himself between her and a gun.

He'd also given her a heartfelt apology for his part in her ordeal.

Her phone pinged again. Kit this time. 'OMG, he's hawt! Does he have a friend??'

Keys' lean, knowing face filled Lindi's mind, and she winced. Yup, Jack had a hot friend, but one who'd been around a lot. And no matter how tough the face Kit showed the world, Lindi couldn't help but feel it was only a thin, fragile facade. Kit needed to find a nice, ordinary guy, not a rambling man who'd make her fall for him and then take off on his bike for parts unknown.

'No, sorry,' she texted quickly. 'Just him & me tonite. Talk to u tomorrow.'

She stuffed her phone back into her purse and followed Jack into the nearest store. Then she stopped short as she realized they were in Victoria's Secret, surrounded by mannequin torsos clad in tiny, pretty underthings.

"I know you said you needed underwear," she said, hands on her hips, "But I figured the men's section at Macy's."

"Cute," he shot back. "This is for you."

"Jack," she hissed. "You are not buying me undies."

"Yeah, I am," he said, perusing the nearest rack, which held a selection of candy pink and black bras and panties. "'Cause then I'm gonna take 'em off of you. I like tits and ass wrapped up sweet. These'll go with your Harley shit."

He fingered a push-up bra, and Lindi snorted. "Not that one. I do not wear double-D."

He grinned. "Know that, honey. I figure you for a C-cup."

"Thirty-four C." She didn't want to think about why he was so accurate at guessing bra sizes. "Size 6 panties. And no, I am not buying any more of those." She grabbed the thong dangling from his big forefinger and tossed it back on the display shelf. "I wear bikinis or boy-cuts."

"Cool. Pick some out." His attention had already wandered on to a turquoise set.
